Hydration - Sip, Not Gulp!

Much has been said about the importance of water in our life and especially on the Internet there is a lot of information that explains the amount of water one should drink daily to stay healthy. However, does the simple act of drinking water adequately hydrate the body for all biological processes?

Adequate hydration is when water reserves are held as per illustrated percentage of body weight in Figure 1 (source: www.h4hinitiative.com).

Drinking water translates to hydration is when body is able to absorb water between cells in the body (in the intracellular and extracellular spaces).

Plain water that is slightly acidic (pH of 6.9) is best used to hydrate the body.

The correct method of drinking water for our body to fully absorb it is to have small sips throughout the day and NOT GULPING it down all at once. Drink as if you are feeding your body cells like watering plant seedlings.
